Hello Friends and Happy Early Holidays!
I know you are probably starting to get bombarded by vast amounts of holiday emails, but I wanted to touch base on a personal level before most of the craziness of the holidays start. We are in full holiday swing here at Steel Cow and are doing a good job of making and shipping holiday orders out as fast as we can so you can get your holiday gifts in plenty of time for this gift-giving season.
Holiday Open House in Des Moines
I also want to invite you to our two Holiday Open Houses we are having in Des Moines at our pop up store this season. The first one will be this weekend November 17th and 18th from 11-7 (maybe later if it's busy) on Friday and from 11-4 or so on Saturday.
Friday the 17th is a special night in the East Village. It is the 16th East Village Holiday Promenade and around the East Village there will be free horse drawn carriage rides, treats and extended holiday hours for most of the shops, ice skating and ice sculpting, carolers and a visit from Santa at LifeServe Blood Center. I've not been yet, but from what I've been told it's a great night! For more information please visit www.eastvillagedesmoines.com
Our second Holiday Open House will be December 15th and 16th from 11-5 or so both days. We will have treats as well as special pricing on ornaments ($9 each with buy 3 get one free), prints (all canvas prints will be on sale and 8x10 paper prints are $15 each with buy 2 get one free!), so if you are in the area and want some great deals please stop by!

We are Iowa!
Travel Iowa just came out with the best 19 Iowa gifts this year and, we might be biased (since "The Girls & Friends" are on this list) but we agree, it doesn't get any more Iowa than this when it comes to awesome made in Iowa gifts this year!
Oh how I hate saying this. I am sad. Really, really sad. I knew it was coming, and I have been preparing myself for it, but I am heartbroken that Nanny, our yellow lab, my best friend and constant companion for the past 14 years died last Monday night. She had been struggling lately, and it was difficult taking care of her. I knew I would miss the younger version of her, as she was my world for many years, but I wasn't expecting to miss the old dog her. But I do.
Whenever we were home she was always there. When Josh and I were younger we took her everywhere with us. She went camping with us in Colorado several times, and closer many, many times. She went backpacking with us in South Dakota and when we were home she absolutely loved visiting my parents' farm. She was the perfect studio dog, most of the time sleeping at my feet while I painted, and if you visited us in our Waukon shop when it was still open as a retail store, she was the yellow lab that always barked a more than welcome hello. She loved being part of our family more than everything and patiently put up with me doing photo shoots of her when she was younger and Eddie and Harry growing up around her. We will love her forever.
Here Nan is with Frankie - our dog who died a few years ago. Hopefully Frankie is chewing on her ears like he loved to do.
Please hug your pet for me and Happy Holidays!
