Happy Early Fall Friends!
I hope you had a great summer! We certainly did. As my family and I are headed back to Iowa from my brother’s wedding that took place in Colorado this past weekend I thought I’d take some time to write a new post and newsletter.
We finally have an updated family photo with me, Ellis, Harry, Eddie and Josh! Thanks to my cousin Beth for taking this shot at my brother's wedding this past weekend.
Since we are just getting in the fall mood around here, I thought I would re-introduce you to Carol - our fall loving cow.
Hi, my name's Carol. I love flannel shirts, fall colors, and spiced pumpkin drinks. I also enjoy getting lost in corn mazes. Carol and all of her friends can be found for sale in canvas prints and other products online at www.steelcow.com
Steel Cow is Cool
I know most of you are well aware of our story, but it’s been awhile since I last updated our mailing list, so here is Steel Cow in a nutshell - all of Steel Cow’s prints are based on my original farm and wildlife paintings. I usually visit each animal in the field before I paint him/her and then name each painting after a friend or family member. We make all of our products with love in Waukon, Iowa and this year Steel Cow is celebrating our 15th anniversary!
Just to let you know, we still have FREE shipping going on on orders over $100 placed at www.steelcow.com
for a limited time.
World Dairy Expo
Each year we exhibit at World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wisconsin and we will be there again in less than two weeks! From October 1-5, 2019 World Dairy Expo will host one of the world’s best known dairy cow shows and trade shows where you can get up close and personal with beautiful dairy cows, and also visit great exhibitors (like us!) at the show.
We always have great deals at our booth in the exhibition hall and products like lazy Susans and magnets that can’t be found online at www.steelcow.com. I was lucky enough to get the last lazy Susan we made last year and we use it all the time! (Eddie really likes spinning it too.)
So, if you plan on attending World Dairy Expo please stop by to say hi or to pick up a Steel Cow item. We will be well-stocked and will also be offering free shipping (in the continental US) on orders placed at the show!
Our Retail Store Will Soon Be Open Again!
Steel Cow has been located at 15 Allamakee Street in Waukon, Iowa since we first opened our doors 15 years ago for retail, but in recent years we have used our space solely for my studio and the making of our products so we can ship them to you.
But.......we are excited to announce Steel Cow will be open again on a retail level this fall after we return from World Dairy Expo!!! I’m not sure if we will have regular retail hours or if it will be by chance when we are working, but either way we will be available for you to physically visit us and to see our products first hand.
We will be having some holiday open houses so stay tuned for dates and times. *Just for clarification - this is at our Waukon location. We had a pop-up store in Des Moines two years ago for six months but this is the Waukon location we are opening up again for retail.
Ellis is one!
My baby turned one this summer. It’s amazing how time flies and how much we love this little boy! As he is the third boy, Ellis is always trying to keep up with his older brothers and is doing things way before his brothers did at his age.
Finally - A Children’s Book!!
I am very excited to announce that my sister Greta (not the cow Greta :) and I have been working on a kid’s book this year and we almost have it finished! It’s a secret for now, but soon we will let you in on all the details and offer pre-sales. It’s main character is not a cow (shocking, I know), but I hope you will love him all the same and grab a copy for yourself, kids, grandkids, or any other kid you know!
Ellis helped me pick colors for the book!
I have a few new paintings in the works, one is of a new Duroc pig (painted in partnership with the National Pork Producers Council) that should be done in time for October Pork Month and the others are some American Bison! My family and I were fortunate to take a trip to South Dakota earlier this summer and I got some fabulous Bison photos thanks to a friend hooking us up with some wonderful guys from Custer State Park and 777 Bison Ranch.
I’ll write a longer post about our amazing experience after I complete my paintings, but in the meantime here is a 6 foot photo of a Bison I took on our trip that we printed and hung in our living room. I have to admit even though it isn’t a painting, it’s pretty cool.
This post is getting long, so I better wrap it up. Thank you for being a friend and I hope you enjoy the beginning to your fall season and all that entails.
